Simple Math

No Internet and 3G laziness means you don’t get a link, but go find Manchester Orchestra’s new single “Simple Math” and tell me you aren’t changed. I can’t really say anything more than that.

The album comes out May 10, best day-before-birthday-present ever!

Soul Meets Body

I’m not sure if I’m happy or sad that I relate so well to this song.  I also can’t really decide if this is a song of love or loss.  In any case, it does contain one of my favourite Death Cab for Cutie lyrics, and that is saying a lot since DCFC consistently produces some of my most treasured lines.

“I do believe it’s true, that there are roads left in both of our shoes”.  Perfect.

Every time I think.. no.. Radiohead CAN’T do it again… they do.  New album “The King of Limbs” is out now, after an announcement earlier this week.  You have to pay what they want this time, but judging from the video/song below, the music is set to be fantastic and well worth the investment.

I meet some people through my chosen profession, but probably my favourite rock star encounter was when I met Thom Yorke.  I was at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, minding my own business, when in strolled a bored-looking Thom Yorke.  I was in disbelief until I remembered that he was playing in Oakland the next day, before moving on to Coachella.  I said hi, we had a pleasant exchange of words, and we both went on with our day.  No fangirl freakout, no pictures, no autographs.  Just, a moment.

Go to the Radiohead website to order the album and watch the video on a great, huge video player.

I’ve been trying to broaden my horizons lately, so here’s a post about a band playing music that isn’t guitar-driven rock ‘n roll.  I know, hard to believe!

I had no idea who this band was when I showed up for the Hot Sex & High Finance show in the scuzzy part of town.  They were awesome!  Recordings aren’t the best, but live they’re great.  3-piece.  Sort of like if Joy Division had a MacBook and weird instruments made from old typewriters.  And, well, without that whole crippling depression thing.

This song makes me want to crawl into a hole and never come out.

Everyone… go buy this record.

Fences – From Roses

Check this guy out, saw him last week open for Against Me! and he was really great.  While I don’t buy sensitive love songs from a guy with face tattoos (pretty sure he’d bone me and then never call me again), his tunes are great.  Sara Quin co-produced the record so it’s in the dark pop vein of T&S.

Mine is Yours

I guess Rolling Stone removed that stream of the new Cold War Kids single. You can listen to it below thanks to their record label, Downtown.

Funny story. I was talking to my loves YOURS about Cold War Kids, then minutes later saw the update from Cold War Kids about the RS stream. And guess what the new album is called? Mine is YOURS. Weird.

So in that vein, a YOURS video.
