1 – only one checked bag. If I wanted to pay $25 to get something where I’m going, I would have FEDEX’d it and saved myself the trouble of carrying it around all day.
2 – crappy entertainment service. No on-demand? Shitty TV? No thanks.
3 – fake, “friendly” service. I don’t want someone to tell me a stupid joke or ask me how my day is going. It’s 5am, how do you think it’s going? I just want you to get me on my way and leave me alone.
4 – no Aeroplan. I want that Super Elite status, dammit!
5 -Limited service. I can only fly to a select number of cities, during a select range of dates, at a select number of times.
6 – it’s not actually cheaper. That’s the beauty of a two party system in the Canadian flight industry, one price-matches the other.
Now, I will begrudgingly board my WestJet flight. Never again.
I’m not sure if I’m happy or sad that I relate so well to this song. I also can’t really decide if this is a song of love or loss. In any case, it does contain one of my favourite Death Cab for Cutie lyrics, and that is saying a lot since DCFC consistently produces some of my most treasured lines.

Every time I think.. no.. Radiohead CAN’T do it again… they do. New album “The King of Limbs” is out now, after an announcement earlier this week. You have to pay what they want this time, but judging from the video/song below, the music is set to be fantastic and well worth the investment.
I meet some people through my chosen profession, but probably my favourite rock star encounter was when I met Thom Yorke. I was at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, minding my own business, when in strolled a bored-looking Thom Yorke. I was in disbelief until I remembered that he was playing in Oakland the next day, before moving on to Coachella. I said hi, we had a pleasant exchange of words, and we both went on with our day. No fangirl freakout, no pictures, no autographs. Just, a moment.

I am LOVING Watson. Finally my super-nerdy obsession interest in Science Fiction is hitting the mainstream. The PBS news report below gives a comprehensive, yet concise, explanation of Watson, the IBM SuperComputer that is kicking human ass at Jeopardy!, so I will save my words for opinion and posturing.
As an avid fan of Science Fiction, perhaps I should be more frightened than most about this advance in artificial intelligence, but I am actually really excited. I’ve devoured books on the subject, hoping that in my lifetime I’d see self-driving cars and androids who think they’re human. After all, the question of “What is Human?” is one of my favourite dilemmas explored in classic and modern science fiction. What defines humanity? If you look, act, and think like a human, are you? How do you know if you are a human or a machine, anyway? Memories of a childhood? What about implanted memories a la “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep”/”Blade Runner”? If something as micro as the media can be used to control the population, who’s to think that this control doesn’t exist on a super-awesome-macro level? Is The Matrix that hard to believe? So many questions.
I don’t actually believe I will live to see a world with technology as advanced as in my favourite books and movies, but any time Sci Fi bleeds into reality, I am pumped!

I’ve been trying to broaden my horizons lately, so here’s a post about a band playing music that isn’t guitar-driven rock ‘n roll. I know, hard to believe!
I had no idea who this band was when I showed up for the Hot Sex & High Finance show in the scuzzy part of town. They were awesome! Recordings aren’t the best, but live they’re great. 3-piece. Sort of like if Joy Division had a MacBook and weird instruments made from old typewriters. And, well, without that whole crippling depression thing.
